In Spanish "aspecto" can mean "respect" instead of "aspect"

May 4, 2017

It is obvious that the Spanish word aspecto means "aspect" in English. What's not so obvious is that sometimes, it needs to be translated as "respect" instead.  For example:

En algunos aspectos me parece una obra genial means In some respects, I think it is a work of genius.

En todos los aspectos means "in every respect."

En ciertos aspectos la situación no ha cambiado means "In certain respects, the situation has not changed."

En ese aspecto tienes razón means "In that respect, you're right."
